Listen. Let the answer stand. How to run a 10-minute family conversation
- Put the cards face down in a pile in the middle of the table. Anyone can draw.
- One person draws a card and reads it out loud.
- That person answers first. Then everyone who wants to answers. Nobody has to.
- There are no wrong answers and no fixing. If someone says something hard, you just listen. You do not cheer it up.
- One card is usually enough for a night. Two is plenty. The point is depth, not coverage.
- End by thanking the person who answered first. That is the whole ritual.
A note for the adults: the moment you answer a child's answer by correcting it, you have ended the conversation. Let the answer stand. Your job is to be curious about what it is like to be them, not to steer them to the right answer.
Print the full deck on letter paper, six cards per page. Cut them out, place them on the table, and start with one question.
Curiosity without categories.
These questions do not collect answers or assign a personality type. Use them to hear each other. We never type or label children.
